How do we got and eye strain? Now a days, lots of people are working using computers and has contributed to one of the major health problems in the society. A simple eye strain can cause other symptoms that will lead to fatigue, headache, puffy eyes, teary or excessive dry eyes, eye itchiness and pain around the eye socket, if not treated soon. This symptoms will lead to unproductive and errors at work. Some other activity that causes eye strain is prolong watching TV which usually happens to children, reading with uncorrected eye problem or poor lighting, reading with small text, fixing minute objects that needs prolong focus. These factors can be minimized and eye strain can be prevented through in many ways. The first and foremost step is to have a comprehensive eye check up. It is advised to all computer users or professionals who will be working with computers to have an eye exam first before they start working and once a year after. Also during the evaluation a good history should includes the frequency of computer use at work and home. Have a good lighting at your work area will prevent your eyes from long time stare that will cause eye strain. Also for computers, adjusting the contrast and brightness will help minimize the problem. Glare is one of the causative factor for eye strain, we can avoid this by putting an anti glare on the computer screen or tv and considering painting the work room with darker color to avoid glare. Some of these measures can be well followed in a home setting or home-office setting. How about if you are working 8 hours in an office with non of this measures are followed. Most Ophthalmologist advises to wear eyeglasses, a special computer eye glass, that will minimize glare, adjust automatically to screen display and should be a prescribe eyeglass will help a lot minimize eye strain and will prevent further eye problems. Most people are relieved with headache after using a computer eyeglass. It is proven and it is more consistent in terms of preventing eyestrain.
