Many of us ask when can we change our eyeglasses. Can we change it more often? The most reason for an eyeglass change is when you feel the eyeglass is not functioning anymore. Although we can have more than one eyeglass at a time, this should have the same lens power. Using different eyeglass with different lens power is disastrous. You are adding injury to your eyes. Most misconception is, we think the power of the eyeglass change that’s why we need a new one. Eyeglass power stay same from the day you purchase, it is our vision or visual acuity changes. A change in visual acuity will cause failure of the eyeglass to function therefore a need to change is important. Most Ophthalmologist or optometrist advises patient to make a follow up after 6 months or earlier when they feel any uncomfortable or strange feeling in their eyes. Usually the strange feeling easily noticed is when we have a headache. Eye strain in early stage is not as easily detected and we think our eye is adjusting to the new eyeglasses. A correct and no error eyeglass prescription should not cause any eye problem or even eyestrain. The problem during visual check or lens fitting, it is more subjective, the patient should be very cooperative with the doctor to arrive to the perfect prescription eyeglass. Errors may come from patients failure to perceive which lens is much clear and comfortable. The presence of eye strain in the first month of use could indicates error in the prescription. While this can be expected when in long term use of eyeglass because our visual acuity changes from time to time specially when already using corrective eyeglasses. Once you feel eye discomfort, have an appointment with your doctor. These are some early signs that you need to change your eyeglasses: blurring of vision, difficulty in visual comprehension, pain around the eye socket, soreness of the eyes and headache. The doctor will check your visual acuity again and the power of your current eyeglass.
After getting a new eyeglasses, do not keep the old one. You can donate it or make an agreement with the optical shop for buyback or a trade-in. Keeping the old eyeglasses will tempt you to use which is not helpful but detrimental, a different lens power will cause much more eye problem.
